Alexis Lautenberg is a long-serving Swiss diplomat whose career has focused primarily on European affairs, financial services, and trade policy. His forty years of public service have included postings as Swiss Ambassador to the EU, Italy and the UK. In 2013, he co-founded the Swiss Finance Council, the European policy platform for the internationally active Swiss financial institutions, which he chaired until earlier this year, and he remains a senior advisor to its board.

A non-lawyer, Ambassador Lautenberg has extensive experience of European financial services policy, including the EU’s third country equivalence rules in banking and financial regulation, which will be an important issue for the UK financial services sector after Brexit. Before his Ambassadorial postings, as Minister, he was in charge of the Economic and Finance Division at the Swiss Foreign Department for eight years, after having served as Head of the economic section of the Swiss Embassy in Germany as well as Deputy to the Swiss Delegation to GATT and EFTA in Geneva.

Ambassador Lautenberg has long experience in working through the complex set of agreements that govern Switzerland’s relationship with the EU. This enables him to help support clients on matters relating to Switzerland, and to Swiss-EU relations.
